About this course

Content

This course focuses on that part of electronics associated with the microwave/millimeter-wave and terahertz telecommunications, radars and remote sensing, computing, modern material technology, food industry, chemistry and medicine. Main attention is paid to teach the students the electromagnetic principles, analytical and numerical simulations, and design techniques for passive distributed components and their integrations of microwave and terahertz frequencies. Among the studied components are the waveguides and integrated transmission lines, basic circuit elements, and microwave/terahertz passive devices manufactured applying different electronic technologies. Students are getting practical skills in the simulation, design and measurements of passive integrated components using advanced circuit and electromagnetic design software tools, measurement equipment. A rich set of microwave components demonstrated and analyzed in class and research laboratory.

Learning outcomes

Knowledges: The candidate has - detailed knowledge of the main principles of microwave and terahertz techniques - knowledge about the main components and their parameters - knowledge about the main microwave technologies - good knowledge about the main design principles. Skills: The candidate can - calculate passive microwave components - use of the Agilent Advanced Design System for simulation and design of passive microwave components. - basic measurement of passive components
