About this course

Content

The course will provide students with a system overview of the design of a radio system, detailed knowledge of important components in the "physical layers" for different radio systems and in-depth understanding in the design of circuits included in radio systems for eg. communication, radar and navigation. The course provides detailed description of the design of RF / Microwave radio transmitters and receivers, general radio system design, basic link budget analysis for wireless communication systems, radio waves, antennas. Furthermore, the course provides detailed description of transmission lines, matching circuits, receiver and transmitter amplifiers, noise and distortion, models of the various components such as R, C, L, transistors (HBT and HEMT), oscillators, mixers, low noise amplifiers, power amplifiers and complete transceivers. The course will provide a thorough introduction to RF / Microwave measurement techniques, calibration and calibration methods (SOLT, TRL, LRM, LRRM etc.), measurement accuracy, spectrum analyzer and network analyzer, measurement and passive components measurement.
