Music Technology

Voice and music as signal, music informatics, acoustical and electronical music instruments, psycho acoustics, music psychology and perception, music analyses and syntheses, MIDI, music performance, sound media.

This course gives basic knowledge for sound and music control and signal processing, emphasizing musical instruments as sound sources, computer assisted music production, processing and distribution.

Knowledge:
We intend to make the student capable of
- Understand and describe music as signal in the time and frequency domain
- Understand the production and use of acoustical and electronics instruments
- Understand the use of computer aided music production, storage and distribution
- Be familiar to the possibilities and constraints in sound processing and experience.

Skills:
The student will achieve a good background to
- Produce and process sound and music with available software
- Simulate sound effects (matlab)
- Understand possibilities and constraints in music processing and production.

General competence:
The aim is to obtain understanding of the link between technological development and music production in addition to achieve skills through independent and personal exercises and team work.
