About this course

Content

The course builds on basic acoustics courses, for applications in electroacoustics and audio signal processing. It provides a fundament for understanding the principles of various sound reproduction systems, such as the binaural format and soundfield reproducing formats, as well as other audio signal processing application, such as directional microphone arrays. Through laboratory exercises the students should achieve a practical knowledge of measurements in electroacoustics. Topics covered include: acoustical measurement techniques, signal processing related to electroacoustics, radiation and scattering of sound as related to electroacoustics, electroacoustic transducers and the electrical analogy circuits for analysing mechanical and acoustical systems, directional hearing, and the foundation and principles for sound recording and sound reproduction.

Learning outcomes

Knowledge: The candidate has: - thorough knowledge about sound radiation, reflection, diffraction and scattering - thorough knowledge about the functionality of electroacoustic transducers - thorough knowledge about measurement techniques and related signal processing in electro acoustics. - good knowledge about various sound recording and reproduction systems Skills: The student is able to - Analyze and design connected electrical/mechanical/acoustical systems, in particular microphones and loudspeakers. - Perform and analyse impulse response measurements in electroacoustics. General competence: The student is able to - Write clear and concise reports
