Master's Thesis

The scientific content depends on the study programme, the chosen specialisation (if applicable) and the problem addressed.

A. Knowledge:

1) Gaining profound knowledge of technological solutions and methods within the subject area of the study programme, the chosen specialisation (if applicable) and the problem addressed.

2) In context of chosen problem, extending knowledge of the scientific and technological basis for the entire subject area of the study programme.

3) Insight into how research results are generated and reported within the area of the problem addressed.

B. Skills:

1) At an advanced level, being able to conduct analysis, modeling, simulation and / or design based on knowledge of technological solutions and methods within the subject area of the study programme and the chosen specialisation (if applicable).

2) A critical and analytical attitude towards own and others work and results.

3) Being able to understand how a problem and its possible solutions contribute to the UN Sustainability Development Goals (SDGs).

C. General competence:

1) Conducting a larger independent project work, including preparing a project plan with milestones and controlling progress, as well as written and oral reporting.

2) Retrieving knowledge through literature studies and other sources and combine this with knowledge and results from own research.

3) Understanding scientific working methods, as well as gaining awareness of ethical issues in research and technology.

Independent work with a research and/or advanced development focus. The student is responsible for selecting the methodology, determining the technical approach, and managing progress. Supervision is provided to support the work. As a general rule, regular meetings with the supervisor are held, and the student is responsible for organizing these meetings. Meetings may be held in person, by telephone, or via video conference. If ongoing supervision is primarily undertaken by a co-supervisor, the main supervisor should be involved at least once per month. An oral presentation of the master’s thesis is compulsory, and attendance throughout the entire presentation day is also required.
