About this course

Content

The subject gives an introduction to networked multimedia systems and the integration between network, user equipment, services and quality of service. This includes principles, mechanisms and frameworks for object based 3D scenes, coding and compression, and also servers, applications and real-time multimedia transport. Furthermore, multimedia services, quality of service, quality shaping, performance evaluation by simulation, and synchronisation of multimedia components are treated.

Learning outcomes

Give basic knowledge of networked multimedia systems, and skills in applying the knowledge.

Teaching methods

Lectures, laboratory with report, writing of essays. Portfolio assessment is the basis for the grade in the course. The portfolio includes a written final exam (50%) and exercises (50%). The results for the parts are given in %-scores, while the entire portfolio is assigned a letter grade. If there is a re-sit examination, the examination form may be changed from written to oral.
