Maritime Cyber Security

The course will provide an introduction to maritime cyber security, with the main emphasis on the implementation of cyber risk management and the handling of cyber incidents. The theory focuses on developments in the maritime industry, risk communication and risk management in a digital perspective. To increase the understanding of the operational handling of cyber incidents, real cases and cyber security exercises are used.

The course is divided into three modules:

1) Introduction to maritime cyber security,

2) Cyber ​​risk management,

3) Maritime cyber ​​incidents - case studies and cyber security exercises.

Upon completion of the course, the student must have the following learning outcomes in the form of knowledge, skills and general competence:

The student must have knowledge of:

• threats and vulnerabilities to maritime systems, and know about defense techniques.
• the challenges associated with digital security management in maritime organizations
• theory related to cyber security management and risk management.

The candidate must have skills in:

• identification of security tasks that must be handled by experts.
• implementation of cyber risk management at a higher level in maritime organizations.
• discussion of security aspects with colleagues.

The candidate must have general competence in:

• cyber risk management.
• implementation of preventive measures, as well as knowledge of processes for handling cyber incidents.
• how new digital vulnerabilities develop in relation to the industry's need for digitization and efficiency.

The course is held intensively over a 2-week period, where students will go through lectures, group work and simulator exercises with accompanying debriefs. Students are given group work and will present in plenary
