Destructive leadership

The course is based on theories that illustrate constructive and destructive leadership behaviour. This includes various forms of poor leadership and different leadership theories. Workplace conflicts and bullying will be discussed as well as different perspectives and tools related to self-leadership and growth as a leader. The course includes some legal aspects of leadership e.g. employer and employee rights, requirements for a sound psychosocial work environment, guidelines for notification, job protection, discrimination and gender equality. Weaknesses and strengths of leadership and leadership development programs will be discussed. The course has an applied focus with emphasis on how different theories and tools can be used in a maritime context.

Knowledge: In-depth knowledge of various forms of destructive leadership. Wide insight into the relationship between destructive leadership and different leadership perspectives. Advanced knowledge of theories related to conflicts and harassment in working life. Good knowledge of legal aspects related to leadership in Norwegian companies.

Skills: Able to understand and analyse various issues related to destructive leadership. Able to apply different theories and tools in a maritime context.

General competence: Understand and analyse various aspects of destructive leadership.
