About this course

Content

Additive manufacturing of metals, machine tools, machining operations, vibration analysis and vibration damping in machining, manufacturing metrology and quality engineering, computer-aided design and manufacturing (CAD/CAM), modelling and simulation of manufacturing systems.

Learning outcomes

Knowledge:

The student should have theoretical and practical knowledge of selected areas within the areas of engineering design and manufacturing technology for applications in various industries. The student should have knowledge of advanced programming tools and computational methods that can be used to develop modern manufacturing systems.

Skills:

The student should be able to work structured and individually with complex problems, and apply theoretical knowledge to find solutions to practical problems. One should be able to obtain the necessary information through literature studies and from other sources, and to be able to plan and carry out experiments in the laboratory. One should be able to describe the project and the results in a clear report.

General competences:

The student should have the competence to plan and accomplish larger tasks. One should be able to analyze results, make assessments and draw meaningful conclusions.

Teaching methods

Independent project work with guidance and advice.

The course contains several lectures taught in English. The language of supervision depends on what is agreed with the supervisor. The report can be written in English or Norwegian.

Incoming exchange students who want to write a project report at MTP can contact studier@mtp.ntnu.no to receive the MTP agreement. The agreement must be signed by all parties before the student arrives in Trondheim.
