About this course

Content

Description of the CSEM and the MT methods. Basic concepts and basic physics of the CSEM and MT methods. Data processing. Modeling. Inversion. Comparison between seismic data and CSEM data. Joint interpretation with seismic data. Case studies from hydrocarbon exploration.

Learning outcomes

The students will get a fundamental understanding of the data acquisition and the underlying physics. They will learn the the data processing sequence from raw data to inverted resistivity cubes. The students will learn to work with processing software that transform the observed data to resistivity cubes by inversion. They shall also be able to interpret EM data and to integrate the results with seismic. After the course the students should be able to use EM data for identification of hydrocarbons in an work flow including seismic data.

Teaching methods

Lectures and exercises. The course will be held in English if international master's students attend. All students participate in the evaluation of the course.
