About this course
Content
Process systems for oil and gas, flow in pipes, pumps and pumping, gas compression, heat transfer and heat exchangers, separators for gas/oil and oil/water, gas hydrates, drying of gas, instrumentation, process simulation.
Learning outcomes
Ingress:
The student shall have knowledge about the flow and processing of oil, gas, condensate and water on platforms, subsea installations and receiving terminals.
Knowledge:
The student shall have understanding of the main aspects of hydrocarbon production systems, including flow in pipelines, separation of oil, gas and water, pumping of oil, condensate and water, compression of gas, gas hydrates, drying of gas and removal of sour gases. Design of equipment packages and/or large processing equipment shall be included in the student's understanding. Furthermore the student shall have understanding of basic instrumentation and the required specifications of oil, gas and water for transport and/or injection.
Skills:
The student shall be able to carry out calculations of pressure drop and temperature in pipelines, size of separators, power of pumps and compressors, amount of chemicals to avoid hydrate formation, size of columns for drying of gas and removal of sour gases. The student shall be able to carry out process simulations of individual equipment and/or whole processes. Furthermore, the student should be able to suggest technical solutions for development of different fields during planning. Computational tools typically used during the course are Excel, Excel VBA and HYSYS, although other tools are sometimes employed.
General competence:
The student shall be able to gather relevant data and information for process calculations, as well as be able to understand the interactions between the technical professions involved in field development, construction of installations and their operation.
Teaching methods
Lectures and compulsory exercises. A reference group will be established to evaluate the teaching activities.
