About this course

Content

Core analysis: Permeability and porosity. Fluid properties: density, viscosity. Interfacial tension. Wettability. Capillary pressure. Resistivity measurements. Upscaling by use of average values, Leverett's J-curve and correlations. Relative permeability. Residual saturations. Two-phase flow.
Well testing: Diffusivity equation. Pressure drawdown and buildup tests for vertical and horizontal wells. Estimation of reservoir volume. Flow regimes and diagnostic plots. Fractured wells and fractured reservoirs. Gas reservoirs.

Learning outcomes

Ingress:
The participants shall learn basic theory to determine reservoir properties by well testing and core analysis.

Knowledge:
The students shall understand the influence of reservoir properties on one- and two-phase flow in subsurface reservoirs.

Skills:
The students shall be able to do well test interpretation and conduct basic measurements in a core lab.

Digital component: The students should understand how to use Excel or softwares for problem solving in well test analysis. Use of Sendra for core analysis.

General competense:
The objective of the course is to teach fundamental techniques as an aid for further studies in reservoir engineering and related subjects.

Teaching methods

Lectures, compulsory exercises and laboratory exercises. Lectures are held in English if international master's students attend the course.
Course evaluation is carried out by a reference group giving students' feedbacks to the course coordinator.
