Industrial Design Engineeering, Master's Thesis

In the master's course, the student must formulate a thesis description describing the academic content, which is approved by the supervisor at The Department of Design. The thesis description sets the framework and expectations for academic content, process, methodology, and results. The final result should show the student's overall design competence that has been acquired throughout the programme.

Knowledge:

The candidate can

• Deliver the results of an independent design process
• Use scientific and design methods when carrying out an independent work
• Work visually, through drawing or other representation to convey their work
• Has a good understanding of his role as a designer within the chosen topic

Skills:

The candidate

• is able to prepare and independently lead a project plan with milestones, report partial results and write a master's thesis according to guidelines
• masters and can independently choose, lead and implement the design subject's working methods, forms of expression and can apply these within the framework of his/her thesis/theme
• can discuss their findings/results and design concepts at an advanced level and with a critical design mindset
• can communicate their design knowledge, process and insight through designative approaches including aesthetic and practical understanding

General competence:

The candidate has

• Documented scientific and design competence when completing a master's thesis in the field.
• Takes independent responsibility for their own learning and can apply their knowledge in new fields
• Can reflect critically, aesthetically and ethically on their own design work
• Can communicate design work to specialists and the general public at a professional level
• Can link their professional expertise in the context of societal issues including sustainability

Independent project work with supervision by agreement. The assignment can be wholly or partly carried out at a company or organization, by agreement with the teacher, sometimes with a co-supervisor from the company or organization.
