Design Project

The student shall, alone or as a member of a group, complete a designproject. A tutor is assigned depending on the project topic. A plan for completing the project must be approved by the tutor within the first 2 weeks of the term. Model building included when it is relevant to the project.

Knowledge: The candidate has utilized general knowledge from previous studies, and collected special knowledge to solve a specific design task.

Skills: The candidate has developed its own capabilities in product design, and gained experience in independent design work, for example through participation in national / international design competition.

General qualifications: The candidate has been trained in project establishment, planning and execution, and has chosen appropriate methodology to realize a larger design project.

This project-based course is based upon individual project work, where students work on a specific topic and discuss their progression regularly with their respective supervisor. It is the student´s responsibility to manage the project, decide on the topic and engage with a supervisor. There are no extensive requirements attached to this course, however some overarching milestones need to be considered. These are: Within the first two week, the student needs to submit a 2 -3 page project description comprising of the following: (1) Project Brief / Introduction, (2) Aims and Objectives, (3) Detailed Project plan, explicitly showing activities and sub-ordinate milestones, (4) Expected deliverables. The project description should be signed by the student´s supervisor and a copy submitted to the course leader. Halfway, the student should engage in an interim project evaluation with his or her supervisor. After this interim review, the supervisor should recommend whether (1) the student should continue with this "Design Study" project, (2) the student should terminate it, or (3) the student should convert and downgrade it to "TPD4195 Design Studies". These decisions are to be made based upon the substance and comprehensiveness of the work done as well as ambitions of the student.
Concerning the submission of final project deliverables, a specific time and date to be agreed upon between supervisor and student.
