Design 4 - Production and Materials

The course is built up around 3 design projects where the students are exploring different materials and manufacturing processes. The interaction between aesthetics, form, function, material, manufacturing method and sustainability are central. Use of laser cutters and 3D printers is included in the course.

Knowledge:

Candiates have

• Knowledge about material groups and relevant material properties for design work.
• Overview of industrial and craft-based production methods.
• Knowledge of the use of laser cutters and 3D printers in the product development process.

Candidates can

• Work on goal oriented product design, focusing on materials and production processes possibilities and limitations.

Candidates know

• Use of different materials and production methods to fullfill defined product spcifications.

Lectures, project work with feedback sessions, model making and excursions to local manufacturing industries. Course program requires students to be present at lectures.
