About this course

Content

A project where groups of students design and prototype a mechatronic system with industrial components is central in the course.

Lectures are given on the following topics: Mechatronics and its relevance in products, Development of technical and mechanical system concepts, and theory and practical exercises in electronics and pneumatics. The course builds on the programming of the Arduino from TPD4126 Prototyping Interactive Media.

Learning outcomes

Knowledge:

  • Basic understanding of mechatronic systems' characteristics: a synergistic combination of mechanical engineering, electronics and electronic control.

Skills:

  • Development of technical concepts. Experience with building a working prototype with industrial components involving electrical engineering, electronic control, pneumatics, and mechanics.

General competence:

  • System thinking in the design of products.

Teaching methods

Lectures, exercises, project and presentation of the result. Coursework includes exercises followed by a main project performed as a group assignment. Course program requires students to be physically present at lectures.
