As described in the modellcourse from the Norwegian Coastal Administration:

Coastal Administration, fairway- and pilot regulations.

Fairway knowledge and fairwai aids to navigation

Evaluation of lines of position and viasual observations

Control of track by means of rate of turn and parallel indexing

Limitation of electronic navigation systems

Assessment of chart quality (paper and ENC)

Electronic Chart Systems, limitations and feasabilities

Shiphandling in restricted waters

Navigation with pilot and bridge procedures

Norwegian VTS services, communication and regulatory regimes

As a paramount objective the course should make the student able to performe safe navigation in Norwegian innshore waters. This includes the theoretical and practical demands spesified in the modell-course from the Norwegian Coastal Administration.

Have in-depth knowledge of regulations related to national navigation and fairway management

Have theoretical basis for applying for Cadett Pilot-exception Permit

Be able to plan a safe passage in Norwegian inshore waters

Use "pilot-techniques" when executing the routeplan
