Maritime communication

GMDSS subsystems and equipment MF / HF / VHF transmitters and receivers for telephony and telex, Digital selective calling (DSC). Satellite Communication Equipment (SES \'s), Emergency Radio Beam Transmitters (EPIRB \'s), Radar Transponders (SART), Power Supplies, Antennas, Navtex. Setting and practical use and testing of the equipment. Radio regulations concerning the use of the aforementioned radio equipment. Publication. Expedition. Emergency and safety traffic.

Learning outcomes - Knowledge:

• In-depth knowledge in maritime communication according to STCW Chapter IV / 2, STCW Code A-IV / 2IMO model course 1.25
• In-depth knowledge of national and international rules and regulations related to maritime communication
• Understand the structure of the Norwegian and international maritime rescue service

• Learning Outcome - Skills:
• Be able to send and receive information using GMDSS subsystem and equipment.
• Be able to alert effectively in an emergency regardless of sea area.
• Perform their duties in accordance with the principle of good radio watch.
• Be able to use current international planning (IAMSAR Manual) as support in search and rescue operations.
• Communicate orally and in writing in English

• Learning outcomes - Competence:
• Be able to convey professional knowledge within the subject area to different target groups both in writing and orally in Norwegian and English.
• GOC / GMDSS Certificate issued by Telenor Maritim Radio - requirements to solve navigator certificate
• Carry out testing of the radio station in accordance with international and national requirements.
• Be able to provide radio service in emergencies.

Pedagogical methods:

Lectures, written and practical exercises, group assignments, simulator and radio training at school, home assignments, SAR (Search and Rescue) exercises.

Attendance at lectures and lab exercises is required.

Mandatory work requirements:

• Requirement of 80% attendance
• Approved 3 SAR simulator exercises.
• Passed written work requirement from TelenorExam

Practical / oral exam at radio lab.
