Introduction to national laws and regulations, as well as international regulations - Emergency notification, Medical advice service, Record keeping, Documentation - Acute life threatening conditions, First aid, Heart lung guidance, Observations and treatment for circulatory failure - Treatment of compression, hypothermia and death on board - Damage and injury treatment, including head and neck and dental surgery, dental treatment - Disease, including tropical diseases and vaccination, disease prevention and hygiene - Gynecology and birth - Drugs, oxygen treatment, medical equipment on board - General nursing, surveillance, examinations, practical procedures, wound care, documentation - Alcohol and substance abuse - Mental reactions and stress management

Knowledge:

• first aid, injury / wound care, acute illnesses, vaccination, mental reactions and stress management, drug handling, medical equipment on board ships
• surveillance and general nursing, substance abuse, prevention and hygiene, medical counseling service
• Evacuation / transfer to land

Skills:

• First aid in case of accidents and diseases that may occur on board ships
• Surveys, observations and assessments communicated to the advisory physician
• Medical treatment as counseled by general practitioner

General competence:

• The candidate must have knowledge and skills in medical treatment in accordance with STCW Chapters VI / 4.2 and STCW Code A-VI / 4-2.

- Lecture, demonstration, practical training in laboratory and in simulator

- 100% attendance on the course
