Knowledge Candidate understands: key topics, issues, tools and methods within maritime terminology in Norwegian and English, including: Rudder order, Machine order, Lookout procedures. Basic knowledge of the navigation simulators and navigation laboratories Good knowledge of key topics, issues, tools and methods within basic practical navigation, including: work routines on bridges, phases in navigation, course notations, positioning, beacons, sea rules, signaling and radio communication

Skills-The candidate can: -use and carry out exercises in navigation simulator and navigation lab, in these correlate reality around the vessel with radar and charts image.-be part of bridgewatch in the navigation simulator in all functions.-usual maritime terminology in Norwegian and English, elementary chart work and time / speed / distance calculations, interpret and apply the rules of the road during sailing. -understand the practice of procedures for guarding the bridge, the usual parts of the Morse code and use of the International Signal Book, VHF as a means of communication in Norwegian and English according to correct procedures -apply professional knowledge and relevant theoretical issues to make informed choices during optical and radar sailing , reflect on their own professional practice and adjust this under supervision. -prepare, plan, perform and evaluate safe coastal voyages at normal speed. -apply professional knowledge and relevant experiences on practical and theoretical issues and make informed choices as a navigator. -reflect on one's own professional practice as a navigator and adjust this under guidance -evaluate and refer to information and subject matter and present this so that it sheds light on an issue
