Applied mechanics and mechanics of materials

Mechanics: Forces and results, center of gravity, equilibrium, straight line and rotating motion, Newton's laws, energy, moment of inertia, spin. Strength theory: Material testing, tension, pressure and twisting. Bending, compound stresses.

Learning outcomes - Knowledge: have in-depth knowledge of mechanics in accordance with STCW chapters II / 1 and II / 2 and STCW code A-II / 1 function "Control of the ship's operation and care for persons on board the operational level" and STCW code A -II / 2 function "control of the ship's operation and care for persons at the management level" have basic knowledge in statics, dynamics and strength theory Learning outcomes - Skills: be able to calculate forces and forces resultant, equilibrium, bearing forces and moment of inertia account account of Newton's laws could calculate shear forces and bending moments on a single hull floating in equilibrium. Simple stability calculations.

Pedagogical methods: Lectures and exercises with supervision. Mandatory work requirements where 2/3 has to be approved to take the exam.
