About this course
Content
Dilute and concentrated solution theories. Current distribution and mass transfer in electrochemical systems: Convective diffusion, estimation of limiting currents, primary, secondary and tertiary current distribution at the electrode surface. Applications in electrode and cell design in electrolysis, corrosion and electrochemical energy conversion. Development of quantitative models for measurement of transport properties and electrode kinetics by steady-state and transient methods. Introduction to mathematical modelling and relevant numerical methods.
Learning outcomes
Introduction to theory of transport processes in electrochemical systems with applications in design and modelling of electrochemical reactors, batteries and fuel cells and cathodic protection systems.
Teaching methods
Lectures and optional problem sets. If there is a re-sit examination, the examination form may be changed from written to oral.
