About this course

Content

The relation between microstructure and mechanical properties will be covered based on physical based models. The following main subjects will be treated: (I) Fracture mechanics related to statistical and dynamic loads (fatigue), (II) Hot deformation (thermo-mechanical treatments ) and creep, and (III) Anisotropy in mechanical properties (texture), including texture characterisation (pole figures and ODF's).

Learning outcomes

The subject aims to describe the mechanical properties of materials related to plastic deformation processes and final applications.

Teaching methods

Lectures and exercises. At delayed exams (continuation exam) the written examination may be replaced by an oral examination.
