About this course

Content

The course deals with the load-carrying functionality, load-effect analysis and design of ships and marine structures. The following topics are addressed: Wave-induced loads on ships. Analysis of shell- and plate-structures. Numerical methods including series solutions for plates. Plate buckling and solution methods based on energy formulations. Buckling of plate panels. Stress analysis of ships and marine structures.

Learning outcomes

To make the students able to compute stresses and deformations in ships and marine structures due to still-water and wave-induced loads, and also to understand the load-carrying functionality of such structures.

Teaching methods

Mainly self-study. Portfolio assessment is the basis for the grade in the course. The portfolio includes a written exam (70%) and a mid term test (30%). The results for the parts are given in %-scores, while the entire portfolio is assigned a letter grade.
