Computer Methods for the Engineer

The course will give insight in the programming languages FORTRAN and C. The process of planning and implementation are central. The student will get programming experience through the project, where important numerical methods will be implemented.

The course will give an introduction to programming, by implementation of central topics for a marine engineer. When the student has passed the course he/she should be able to :
- Read and write computer program in the program languages Fortran and C.
- Be able to implement scientific theory in a computer program.
- Understand symbols which are commonly used in the phase of program spesification and program development.
- To know procedures for program design.
- To be able to estimate required work for implementation of a scientific problem.
- Have knowledge to computer programs used for visualization of results found from numerical calculations.
- Be able to install and configure software necessary to to computer programming and other scientific needs.
