Industrial ICT, Introduction

The course gives a motivation and a basic knowledge about the most effective and commonly used ICT-tools in leading industrial companies. The students also get hands-on experience with some of these software tools. This experience will be very useful in other courses later in the study.

Knowledge:
An MSc candidate has knowledge of:
- Product Development (PD).
- Technical programs in PD.
- Programming.
- Geographical information systems (GIS).

Skills:
An MSc candidate can:
- 3D Modelling of components and assemblies in CAD systems.
- Generation of 2D worksheets.
- Virtual testing og products wrt. Strenght and vibrations (FEA).
- Simple JAVA programming.
- Use of GIS systems (IDRISI, InkScape and regneark).
- Create realistic flyers based on virtual 3D models.

General competence:
An MSc candidate can:
- Understand the power of 3D modeling and analysis in PD.
- Understand how a program is compiled, linked and executed.
- Understand satellite navigation, photogrammetry og thematic maps.

The course gives a theoretical introduction and training in various ICT/CAE software tools. The training is partly given by invited speakers from the industry which actively use CAE tools in their product development. The students must perform practical exercises and one product development project based on the CAE software tools. The project accounts for 40%, and the exercises account for 60% of the grade in the class. Assessment for the course is partially based on group projects. If significant differences in the contributions from group members have been documented, individual adjustment of final grading may be considered. The technostart project is also integrated in the course.
The course will also contain some programming.
There will also be a mandatory web-based course in basic health, safety and environmental work (HSE).
