About this course

Content

Easy introduction to mechanics with focus on application in material selection.
Calculation and analysis of simple mechanical models in the SolidWorks computer program.
Systematic material selection and process selection for selected applications with the main focus on mechanical design (Ashby's method of using material indices and the computer program "CES Edupack").
Processes for forming, joining and surface treatment of different materials

Learning outcomes

Knowledge

- The candidate is familiar with mechanics.
- The candidate is familiar with basic principles of mechanical modeling.
- The candidate has knowledge of systematic material selection and material indices with the main focus on mechanical design.
- The candidate has knowledge of processes for forming, joining and surface treatment of different materials.
- The candidate has knowledge of systematic process selection.

Skills

- The candidate can use the computer program "CES Edupack" as a tool in systematic material selection and process selection.
- Candidate can make systematic material selection and process selection for selected applications with the main focus on mechanical design and can justify their choices.
- The candidate can perform calculations and analysis of simple mechanical models in the SolidWorks computer program.
- The candidate can plan and carry out laboratory work in selected material engineering processes.

General competence

- The candidate can communicate project work in writing and orally and participate in professional discussions in process and material choice.
- The candidate has insight into the environmental and social consequences of material and process choices, and can put these in an ethical perspective and in a lifelong perspective.
