About this course

Content

The course provides an introduction to scientific computation by means of lectures and projects that typically are organised as group work. The theoretical part is concerned with selected topics from computational sciences and mathematical modeling. The three projects are taken from physics, biophysics, and mathematics.

Learning outcomes

A student successfully meeting all the learning objectives of this course will be able to:

  1. formulate specific problems from physics and biophysics using mathematical models;
  2. explain and use specific numerical methods to solve these problems;
  3. implement certain numerical algorithms on a computer;
  4. critically assess the obtained numerical results;
  5. communicate the findings in a form of a report.

Teaching methods

Lectures and exercises, including programming and project work.
