Protocols for Mobile and Wireless Applications

The course treats network architecture and protocols for wireless systems including mobile IP.

The following themes are covered: System and network architecture of wireless access networks including: discovery procedures, paging, resource administration of bearer (both regarding access points and capacity), interworking between mobile and wireline networks and between heterogeneous wireless network solutions. Current systems will be inspected and compared (3GPP/LTE access technologies as well as IEEE 802 based). Special emphasis is put on mobility management in heterogeneous environments.

A. Knowledge: Comprehensive knowledge of main principles and solution options regarding mobility management within and between different wireless access technologies.
B. Skills: To be capable of evaluate, design or eventually recommend specific solutions within given applications areas.
C. General competence: To give the participants a survey of the area of wireless/mobile telematics, the different access methods and principles for mobility management.

Lectures, colloquiums, group work.

The grading rule is pass/fail. The minimum passing grade is 70/100 points (70%).
