About this course

Content

Statics: Free-body diagram, moment of force, equilibrium equations, couple, powersystems and simple trusses with the Method of Joints and - Sections, shear force and bending moment.
Dynamics: Kinematics- and kinetics of a particle, velocity vector, acceleration vector, Newton laws, inertia systems, mass particle in rectilinear- and circular motion, polar coordinates, tangential- and normal acceleration.
Work and energy: Kinetic energy, elastic energy, potential energy, principle of work and energy, conservative forces, conservation of energy, principle of impulse and momentum. Planar kinematics of a rigid body: Center of mass, law of forces, moment of force about a point and an fix axis. Law of moments, work and energy, vibrations.
Rotation of a rigid body about a fixed axis: Velocity- and acceleration distribution, law of forces, laws of moments, moment of inertia, energy of rotation, laws of impulse and momentum, planar kinetic, equations of motions, parallelaxis theorem for moments of inertia. Damped/undamped Free and Forced Vibrations.

Learning outcomes

This is a basic course in Dynamics and Statics. To give introduction to the laws of motion. To present methods to determine the motion of a body when the forces acting on the body are known, or to find the forces on a body when the motion of the body is known.

Teaching methods

Lectures and exercises. If there is a re-sit examination, the examination form may be changed from written to oral.
