Content
Chromatography:
Chromatographic theory. Sample preparation. Stationary Phases Structure and Properties. The importance of the mobile phase for seperation. Instrumental methods. Spectroscopy used as the detection method. Quantitative chromatographic analyzes.
Students must choose one of the following specializations:
Specialization in chemical analysis:
Spectroscopic methods such as IR, UV / Vis, NMR, AAS, ICP and mass spectroscopy.
Electron microscopy.
or
Specialization in biotechnology
Environmental biotechnology / bioremediation (screening / isolation of microorganisms)
Biosensors (general introduction)
Immunology (general principles / mechanisms of immune system, immunization (transplants, immunological techniques).
Mammalian cells (hybridoma cells, cultivation, products (eg monoclonal antibodies)).
Hereditary (Mendel's inheritance (autosomal) / sex-linked inheritance.
Learning outcomes
Chromatography
The student has knowledge of key chromatographic techniques and can optimize a chromatographic method
The student has basic knowledge of chromatographic theory
The student can carry out simple and instrumental chromatographic laboratory tests
The student can communicate results from chromatographic laboratory tests in simple reports
The student is familiar with subjects in the field of chromatography coupled with spectroscopy
Specialization in chemical analysis
The student has basic knowledge of the principles and applications for the various spectroscopic methods.
The student has basic knowledge of the principles of SEM and TEM.
The student has basic knowledge of related technical equipment.
The student is familiar with automation.
The student can interpret spectroscopic data into simple chemical compounds.
Specialization in biotechnology
The student is familiar with environmental biotechnology
The student knows basic principles in immunology
The student is familiar with various experimental immunological methods.
The student is acquainted with principles of cultivation and production with mammalian cells.
The student has basic knowledge of inheritance of properties (Mendel, autosomal / gender-bound inheritance).
Skills
chromatography
The student can carry out simple and instrumental chromatographic laboratory tests
The student can communicate results from chromatographic laboratory tests in simple reports
Biotechnology:
The student can cultivate and isolate microorganisms.
The student can carry out simple art-determining (microorganisms) analyzes.
The student can plan and carry out a project assignment with both a theoretical and practical part.
The student can evaluate and disseminate results from laboratory tests / projects in writing in the form of a report (scientific form)and oral.
Chemical analysis:
The student can interpret spectra
The student can solve unknown relationships
Teaching methods
Lectures and laboratory work with mandatory presence. Lectures: 90 hours, Laboratory exercises: 35 hours. Own effort: 140 hours.
