About this course
Content
Project work in physical chemistry (quantum chemistry, computational chemistry, thermodynamics, and molecular modelling) corresponding to 15 sp. The Project theme is chosen together with the teacher within the following topics: Thermodynamics (Prof. Øivind Wilhelmsen), Computational Chemistry (Prof. Per-Olof Åstrand), Quantum Chemistry (Prof. Henrik Koch), Quantum Chemistry (Ass. Prof. Ida-Marie Høyvik), Molecular Simulations (Ass. Prof. Anders Lervik), or Molecular Simulations (Prof. Titus van Erp).
Learning outcomes
The project aims at giving the students in-depth knowledge of the chosen theme and experience in research-based project work. After finishing the course the student should:
- Be able to obtain the knowledge relevant to the given project through literature studies.
- Be able to explain how their own research results are connected with previous knowledge in the field.
- Be able to formulate and use central models and methods which are being used in connection with the study project.
- Be able to interpret and be critical of their own results.
- Be able to present his/her research results in written and oral form.
- Master the standard working tools for the relevant scientific discipline which are needed to solve the study project.
Teaching methods
Individual or group-based project work.
