Content

The subject is part of the skills strand for numerical and experimental physics

Special and general relativity.

Quantum physics, experimental and historical basis. Basic quantum mechanics.

Basic atomic, nuclear and particle physics.

Learning outcomes

Knowledge

After completing the course, the student will have:

  • Knowledge of the foundations of modern physics
  • Knowledge of fundamental concepts in modern physics
  • Learned to analyze basic problems in quantum physics and relativity
  • Learned to use mathematical methods involving differential and integral calculus, eigenvalues ​​and eigenfunctions
  • Knowledge of the importance of modern physics and its connection to other fundamental areas of physics

Skills

The student can:

  • Analyze basic problems in modern physics
  • Simulate simple problems in modern physics numerically

General competence

The student can:

  • Use known analytical models for new problems
  • Apply mathematical methods for solving problems in modern physics
  • Analyze problems in modern physics with mathematical and numerical methods, including ICT tools
  • Explain the importance/role of modern physics, both for other areas of physics and for other disciplines
