About this course

Content

Ohms law, Kirchhoff's laws, super position, Thevenin and Norton equivalents, capacitance, inductance, 1st order RC and RL circuits. Semiconductor devices, such as diodes and MOSFET transistors. Compulsory laboratory assignments for hands-on practical training to become familiar with devices and instruments.

Learning outcomes

The course shall give the students a theoretical introduction to basic theory and techniques within circuit analysis. The focus is to establish a thorough basis for future studies of electronic circuit theory and design.
The curriculum will enable the students to analyze complex circuit diagrams, and to design simple models of realistic electronic systems. The course will also introduce the student to use relevant laboratory techniques and equipment to construct and analyze electronic circuits. The subject will also give the student an idea of usage of electronic systems in today's society and work-envornment.
Knowledge:
- Understand basic theory and mathematic laws within circuit theory.
- Understand basic semantics and results from theory on resistive circuits, simple capacitive and inductive circuits and semiconductor components.
- Basic knowledge of the principles of ideal components.
- To use laboratory equipment such as voltmeters, amp-meters, oscilloscopes and signal generators.
- Knowledge of typical usage of resistive circuits, simple capacitive or inductive circuits, and semiconductor components.
Skills:
- Combine obtained knowledge and experience within mathematics and circuit theory to analyze electronic circuits.
- Use basic circuit theory to solve problems within electronics and analyze/design simple circuits.
- Use obtained laboratory skills to analyze circuit systems.
General competence:
- write clear and concise reports.
- plan and execute experimental studies.

Teaching methods

Lectures, compulsory excercieses and laboratory assignments. If there is a re-sit examination, the examination form may be changed from written to oral. One of the mandatory excercises will take place at a given date and a given location.
