About this course

Content

Framework and framework conditions for energy planning. Technical-economic-environmental description of different processes for transport, conversion and consumption of energy. Energy and heat planning. Local energy planning. Optimal operation of power production, among others hydro power. The water value method. An introduction to optimal expansion planning of energy systems. Support for renewable energy production.

Learning outcomes

Knowledge: After completing the course, the student shall: - understand the methodic foundation and framework for energy planning on the local, regional and national level. - understand methods for optimal power production. - understand the water value method for hydro pwoer planning. - understand basic economic principles for investments in energy systems. Skills: After completing the course, the student shall be able to: - formulate and solve central problems within technical-economic-environmental planning and operation of stationary energy supply systems, electrical and thermal. - give an account of the technical, economic and environmental consequences and optimize solutions for meeting the demand for electrical and thermal energy. - be able to formulate simplified energy planning problems in Python General competence: After completing the course, the candidate has increased: - skills in cooperation and interdisciplinary collaboration - ability to communicate effectively to professionals and non-specialists alike through reports and presentations - ability to contribute to innovation and innovation processes

Teaching methods

Lectures and compulsory exercises. Two excercises are based on Matlab. Compulsory project work, based on Python. Guest lecture from industry to emphasize the link between theory and practice. The course is given in English.
