About this course

Content

The specialization project is directed towards technical, economical and environmental analysis of systems that demand energy. This involves load and energy demand, inclusive energy conversion, distribution, and use of energy. The project work can be directed towards analysis and development of infrastructure and relevant systems giving an efficient and environmental friendly use and supply of energy for a sustainable society. The project work is mainly directed towards systems where the energy demand may be covered by energy sources like biomass, solar energy, natural gas, and other fossil fuels, but may also include integrated electric/thermal systems. Relevant fields will be: - Heat and energy planning. - Air conditioning of buildings. - Energy flexible HVAC systems and district heating. - Heat pumps for climatization. - Intelligent and energy sufficient buildings. - Modelling and simulation of HVAC systems. - Indoor climate, health, well being and productivity. - HVAC-systems in practise. - Air flow pattern in rooms and buildings. - Environmental consequences analyses. The project consists of a project work at 15 study-points. For more information on possible, relevant project areas and teachers you may look at the specialization projects referred to at the respective professional groups above. You will find on the website of the department: http://www.ntnu.edu/ept/project-work

Learning outcomes

KNOWLEDGE: The specialization project will provide the student with knowledge and specialization in a specific topic at a higher level than an undergraduate course. The relevant topics are: - Heat and energy planning. - Air conditioning of buildings. - Energy flexible HVAC systems and district heating. - Heat pumps for climatization. - Intelligent and energy sufficient buildings. - Modelling and simulation of HVAC systems. - Indoor climate, health, well being and productivity. - HVAC-systems in practice. - Air flow pattern in rooms and buildings. - Environmental consequences analyses. SKILLS: The specialization project should enable the student to: - Use scientific methods, including acquisition of complementary knowledge from literature and other sources, and how to combine this with own knowledge. - Design components for climatization and energy supply. - Model and simulate HVAC and energy supply systems. - Analyze HVAC and energy supply systems. - Analyze load and energy demand. GENERAL COMPETENCE: After ended specialization project: - The student should be competent in completion of a major independent project, including preparing a project plan with milestones, reporting of partial results and writing the project report - The student should be able to apply this expertise in developing and designing solutions.

Teaching methods

Independent project work with guidance. The guidance and advice are in English when students who do not speak Norwegian take the course.
