About this course

Content

It will contain the following parts:-CFD - Computational Fluid Dynamics.-Depth study in classic fluid mechanics, covering topics from aero dynamics, turbulence and transient flow in gas pipes.- Hydraulic Machinery covers turbines, pumps and hydraulic systems. Fluid power, components as well as systems is also included.- Experimenting and analyzing wind conditions, both in model and full scale, relewant for wind power development.- Problems connected to multiphace transport of gas-liquid in pipes.

Learning outcomes

The course gives a deeper understanding in problems which are relevant for the in-depth study in the fluid mechanics. After completion of this course, the student will have:- knowledge on: classical fluid mechanics, use of a commercial CFD package, setting up a simulation using a CFD package, analysis, validation and verification of CFD solutions, models to be used in the simulation of turbulent flow, hydraulic machinery, pumps and hydraulic systems- overview on: the area/subject of the special project chosen by the student (areas to chose from include: aerodynamics, turbulence, transient flow, gas flow in pipelines, hydraulic machinery, system dynamics, wind power)- skills on: evaluation of which models should be used in the CFD simulation of a given flow problem, evaluation of the quality of the results obtained from the CFD simulation, evaluation of which turbulent model to be used in different flow problems, particular skills in the area/subject of the special project chosen by the student (areas to chose from include: aerodynamics, turbulence, transient flow, gas flow in pipelines, hydraulic machinery, system dynamics, wind power)- general competence on CFD simulations (simulation setup, models setup, results analysis and evaluation, validation and verification of solutions), modeling of turbulent flow, general competence also in the area/subject of the special project chosen by the student.

Teaching methods

The teaching will be given in lectures, possible compulsary exercises, seminars or self-tuition. The lectures and exercises are in English when students who do not speak Norwegian take the course. The topics will be taught either together or separated into some different modules.
