About this course
Content
1. Combustion and gasification of carbonaceous fuels with emphasis on biomass. 2. Pollutants from stationary combustion: formation and emission. 3. Sampling and measurement techniques. 4. Absorption and its applications for flue gas. 5. Adsorption and its applications for flue gas and fuel gas. 6. Environmental catalysis (DeNOx). 7. Particle separation technologies.
Learning outcomes
Knowledge: The course provides the student with knowledge about: - Emissions from stationary combustion: formation and control. - Combustion sampling and measurement techniques. - Environmental catalysis for NOx reduction. - Absorption and its applications for gas cleaning. - Adsorption and its applications for gas cleaning. - Particle separation technologies. Skills: The course should enable the students to: - Indentify relevant approaches for abatement and control of emissions from the combustion. - Design relevant systems for controlling emissions from combustion plants. - Perform basic engineering calculations for gas cleaning equipment, including wet and dry scrubbers, adsorbers, and particle separators. General competence: After completion of the course the students should gain general competence in : - Combustion and emission regulations. - Emission sampling and measurement. - Audition and assessment of emission from combustion plants. - Analysis of strategies for reduction of emission from combustion plants. - Design and maintenance of different gas cleaning systems.
Teaching methods
Classroom lectures, calculation exercises and a project work. The exercises and the project work are compulsory and must be approved before being admitted to the exam. The lectures and examination papers are in English only. Students are free to choose Norwegian or English for written assessments.
