Knowledge: After completion of this course, the student will have knowledge on: - Experimental methodology - Mesurements of pressure, temperature, velocity, forces - Calibrating the elements of a measurement chain - Analysis of experimental results - Analysis of uncertainty of experimental resulta After completion of this course, the student will have an overview on: Both elementary and advanced techniques for the measurement of direct and indirect properties occurring in process technology Skills: After completion of this course, the student will have skills on measuring: - Pressure, temperature, velocity, chemical composition - Direct and indirect measurement of heat flux, volume flow, hydrodynamic forces and the measurement of hydrodynamic losses - Parameters in turbulent flows - Model tests and scaling - Calibration of measuring devices - Systematic and random errors - Cross-correlations in time series - Requirement of accuracy in experiments - Building an experimental chain and installing of probes - Presentation of experimental results – dimensionless groups - Experimental results as basis for mathematical models - Planning of experiments and instrumentation General competence: After completion of this course, the student will have general competence on: For industrial processes one has to be able to measure physical properties and states, do an evaluation and use these to control the process.

Teaching methods

Lectures and laboratory excercises. Excercises are mandatory, constituting 50% of the final grade. The lectures and exercises may be in English when students who do not speak Norwegian take the course.
