Content

Introduction to design and development of functional form

- definition(s) and related terms

- design methodology and strategy concerning form and function

- implementation of a practical project work (incl. idea and concept development)

- the relationship between form and functionality

- involvement of representatives from the target group - having knowledge and experience with the products

- design in a societal perspective; from local to global needs and demand

- materialization of ideas and concepts, both manually and digitally

- visualization of the design process from idea to prototype

- academic writing; project-report based on IMRoD

- Reflective writing (on own project work)

Learning outcomes

KNOWLEDGE - The candidate:

- can define and describe 'Design' as a field of study, and differentiate between the various methodologies

- can explore and analyze the relationship between form and function

- can define and analyze needs and problem areas for products

- can see design in a societal and sustainable perspective; from local to global needs and demand

- has knowledge of techniques for development of ideas and concepts, both manually and digitally

- has knowledge of techniques for visualization of the design process from idea to prototype

SKILLS - The candidate:

- must be able to apply design methodology and strategy to research and exploration of form and function

- must be able to carry out practical project work including idea and concept development

- must be able to shape objects to achieve given criteria for functionality

- must be able to use relevant and established methodology for user involvement

- must be able to materialize ideas and concepts, both manually and digitally

- must be able to visualize design process from idea to prototype

- must be able to conduct model- and prototype testing according to a matrix evaluation

- must be able to master academic writing; a project report based on IMRoD

- must be able to reflect on individual and others' work in an objective and constructive way

GENERAL COMPETENCE

- The candidate:

- can carry out project work in a focused and reflective manner

- understand the importance of design in a societal and sustainable perspective

- can reflect on their own and others' work in an objective and constructive way
