Norwegian Sign Language 1

In TEGN1100 students will acquire basic skills in Norwegian Sign Language, enabling them to conduct simple conversations on everyday themes. Focus is on developing basic skills in communicating in Norwegian Sign Language by acquiring a set of basic signs and grammatical structures in order to be able to construct simple utterances. Students are also introduced to the different manual alphabets, and number and counting systems used in Norwegian Sign Language. Central in TEGN1100 is to learn strategies to communicate and interact on visual conditions.

Candidates

• Have knowledge about different strategies for visual communication
• Have knowledge about different manual alphabets, number and counting systems used in Norwegian Sign Language
• Can use simple sentence patterns and phrases they have learned to conduct simple conversations on central everyday themes such as family, background, education, studying and leisure interests
• Has basic skills in using manual alphabets and number signs
• Can understand the most frequent sign vocabulary and common phrases regarding central everyday themes

• 80% compulsory attendance the first six weeks.
• Language acquisition exercises.

• Communication exercises intended to promote comprehension and production of Norwegian Sign Language.
• Participation in recommended signed language arenas in Trondheim.
• Approved obligatory assignments are valid for three semesters (the semester in which the approval is given, plus the following two semesters). All obligatory assignments must be completed in the same semester.
