About this course

Content

Private and public organisations are increasingly delivering services rather than products. For instance, newspapers are less about producing a paper product and more about browser/ mobile presentations, tailoring of ads, added services for subscribers, opening up for recommender services based on users behaviour or preferences. ICT is characterised by being programmable, extendable and composed into layers which invite development of new services. ICT thus promotes unique opportunities for digital service innovation. The course focuses on three aspects of digital service innovation: Service ecosystem (roles, business models, institutional setting) Service platform (technical platform, architecture, layered model) Co-created value (for whom? Experienced value, situated value) The course addresses relevant theoretical concepts and models. The course also discusses selected cases/ examples

Learning outcomes

Knowledge: The candidate will establish deep knowledge about concepts of, models for and experiences with digital service innovation. Skills: The candidate will gain solid skills in identifying, developing and evaluating new service platforms in realistic situations. Competence: The candidate will establish an interdisciplary compentence in understanding the business-oriented, strategic, technological and social conditions to realise digital service innovation in practice.

Teaching methods

The course consists of lectures and mandatory exercises. The mandatory exercises are group-based study of a self-selected case. The exercises address analyze the actors and dynamics of the selected case of a digital platform ecosystem.

The exam is an individual assignment (essay/report) discussing the case from the exercises in light of relevant literature from the course curriculum.

The individual assignment/essay/report counts 100% of the evaluation.
