Theory and practice of digital transformation

The course introduces students to both the theory and real-world cases of digital transformation in private and public organisations. Case studies will be drawn from the health sector as well as other relevant domains.

The theoretical part will cover state-of-the-art international research describing the driving forces and methods behind digital transformation. A collection of teaching cases will present real-world examples, allowing students to discuss these cases in light of the theoretical frameworks.

More specifically, students will learn what digital transformation entails and how it differs from traditional IT-based design and development. The course will explore different approaches to practicing digital transformation, emphasizing the intersections between design, development, and use. It will also address the role of data and various classes of technologies—such as digital platforms, artificial intelligence, and more—in enabling digital transformation.
