About this course

Content

Introduction to concepts, principles, and practice for the design of user interfaces with high usability. Topics covered include task analysis, interviewing techniques, scenario building, personas, iterative design methods, usability testing, mental and conceptual models, interface metaphors, gestalt principles for layout design, empirical and formal evaluation methods, dialogue- and prototyping techniques. ISO standards for usability and user-centered design (ISO 9241-11 and ISO 9241-210).

Learning outcomes

Knowledge: Introduction to important concepts, methods and techniques related to human-computer interaction and design of user interfaces.

Skills: The student learns to master methods, techniques and tools for design of user interfaces with high usability.

General competence: Experience with usability testing and prototyping.

Teaching methods

Lectures, exercises in groups and individual study time.

The course cannot be taken through distance learning. The mandatory exercises and the examination arrangement are group-based, and practical implementation requires that all group members can physically meet on campus.
