Procedure-Oriented Programming

Programming languages and computers. Problem solution methods and programming methodology. Algorithms. Variables, data types and data structures. Control structures. Subroutines, functions and parameter passing. Modules. Program libraries. Files and file processing. Input and output. Recursion. Pointers, dynamic variables and dynamic data structures. Advanced features of procedures and modules. Briefly about object oriented programming. The programming language used in the course is Fortran.

The students shall develop skills in computer programming. They shall adopt basic knowledge on the elements of modern languages for procedure oriented programming as well as insight in methods for program development. Pratical skills shall be trained by assignments on themes ranging from training on simple language elements to analysing and implementing a larger system.

Lectures and exercises. At postponed exam (continuation exam) the written exam may be replaced by an oral exam.
