Learning outcomes
KNOWLEDGE
Highway Construction:
The candidate shall be familiar with the background of the provisions of the N100 and N200 Standards, and have basic knowledge of the principle of geometric design and technical construction of roads and streets. The candidate will be familiar with the construction of digital road and terrain models, and the application of this in a computer assisted road planning system.
Geomatics:
The candidate should have basic knowledge of instruments and measurement methods using levels, total station and GNSS equipment. The candidate should know the most common manual and computer assisted calculation and drawing methods used.
The candidate should know different standards of geographical information and how such data can be transferred between different computer systems. The candidate will be familiar with methods for quality assessment of measurements performed.
SKILLS
Highway Construction:
The candidate should be able to dimension and construct roads and streets in accordance with current requirements for materials, alignment, environment and aesthetics. Using CAD tools, the candidate should be able to make a simple design of a highway stretch, focusing on terrain adaptation, alignment and earthworks quantities. The candidate must be able to present plans and profiles.
Geomatics:
The candidate must be able to perform engineering assessment tasks using
levels, total station and GNSS equipment, and could process this by using computer surveying software.
The candidate should be able to computer surveying software for map and digital terrain models. The candidate should be able to exchange geographical information between different computer systems through practical tasks.
GENERAL COMPETENCE
Highway construction and geomatics:
The candidate shall have good skills in the use of professional sources, professional methods, applicable laws and regulations, as well as standards for planning, engineering, surveying, construction, management, operation, maintenance.
Teaching methods
Lectures, individual exercises, project-based CAD Learning. Laboratory Excercises. Surveying Field excercises.
