About this course
Content
Pipe materials and properties. Introduction to VA-planning with simple drawings of ditch cross sections, longitudinal sections and floorplans.
Hydro Mechanics: Fluid flow and Bernoulli's equation. Flow in open channels, Mannings formula, critical flow. Using Flowmaster.
Water Supply Equipment: Water sources, water treatment, calculation of reservoir volumes and regulation heights, dimensioning of pressure lines and choice of pipe materials. Capacity Calculation pumps and pump lines.
Wastewater Technology: Separate-joint system, dimensioning of gravity lines for wastewater and stormwater and selection of pipe materials, overflow and pumping. Use of the rational method. General intro to CAD models in civil engineering (Autocad, Novapoint, Tekla, Revit)
Learning outcomes
Knowledge:
The candidate should have knowledge about the functioning of the various key elements of a VA system.
The candidate should be able to explain the common pipe materials used in the VA system and know the requirements for plant construction.
The candidate should have knowledge of water quality and regular water treatment.
The candidate can refresh their knowledge in the field of information retrieval.
Skills:
The candidate can make hydraulic calculations of single pipes and ducts
The candidate can create simple drawings with VA wires.
The candidate can make sizing of simple sewage lines.
The candidate can use basic features of CAD applications suitable for field construction.
General competence:
The candidate has insight into the importance of the pipe material properties together with construction execution in relation to good practice and the plant's lifetime.
