About this course
Content
Production technology: articles, cement, v/c-numbers, concrete categories, proportions and concrete formulas, the production process.
Concrete constructions: Basic knowledge of dimensioning for bending, shear forces, axial forces and deformations, fracture limit state, utility limit state, constructive materials, reinforcement details and practical rules for reinforcement, Eurocode and how it is used as a framework for the dimensioning of concrete constructions.
Concrete constructions with regard to environmental, technological and economic aspects, aesthetics aspects, choice of solutions and dimensions.
Learning outcomes
KNOWLEDGE
The student shall:
- Know basic principles and methods of dimensioning
concrete structures, including dimensioning for bending, shear and axial forces.
- Know material parameters for concrete and reinforcement with regard to tension and stretching and how these affect results with regard to dimensioning.
- Understand the relationship between load on one side and structural strength on the other side.
- Understand the basic thinking behind the dimensioning in terms of use and breakdown.
- Know the basic environmental, technological and economic aspects of concrete structures and how concrete production and dimensioning can affect these aspects.
- Understand how and why research and innovation are fundamentally important for developing new solutions and better results for society.
SKILLS
The student should be able to
- dimension simple concrete structures in use and breakage limit state according to NS-EN 1992 1-1, including calculation and drawing of M, V and N diagrams of simple constructions
- calculate tension and stretches in reinforced cross-section
- calculate deformations in standard concrete structures
- design concrete structures that meet the requirements for durability / lifetime and cracks according to NS-EN 1992 1-1
- use simple methods for pre-dimensioning concrete structures
- communicate the most important calculation results in writing in a professional, clear and organized manner, including drawings / sketches of cross-sectional details
GENERAL COMPETENCE
The student should be able to
- participate in professional discussions in the field of concrete structures and share their knowledge and experiences with others in Norwegian and English.
- acquire new academic knowledge through participation in research and innovation projects and literature studies
- evaluate and use professional literature, as well as convey written information and knowledge from these within the subject.
Teaching methods
Lectures. Group and individual exercises. Lectures may be given in English.
