About this course

Content

Traffic engineering and traffic management for road sections, intersections and networks.

Advanced and automated collection, processing and presentation of traffic data.

Traffic signals, priority and traffic control.

Traffic flow theory and driver behavior.

Modelling of driver support systems including automated and co-operative driving

Theoretical basis for traffic and simulation models.

Use of simulation and modelling tools to evaluate quality of traffic flow, route choice, energy, emissions and driver behavior.

Learning outcomes

Knowledge (The candidate should have knowledge of):

  • Theoretical basis of traffic- and simulation models
  • Verification, calibration and validation of models
  • Practical use of traffic- and simulation models
  • Traffic signals and priority
  • Advanced and automated traffic data collection

Skills (The candidate is able to):

  • Arrange data, establish model and carry out model calculations to estimate impact of traffic management schemes
  • Select appropriate model for different issues
  • Interpret, understand and communicate results from model calculations
  • Assess limitations, uncertainty and sensitivity in results from models

General competence (The candidate can):

  • Use results from model calculations as a basis for an overall decision basis for sustainable transport solutions
  • Approach professional discussions, both public and disciplinary, with critical curiosity
  • Solve tasks both on your own and as a part of a team

Teaching methods

Lectures, workshops and exercises. The lectures and exercises are in English when non-Norwegian speaking students follow the course.
