Logbuilding excercise

The course is related to the courses TBBY1010 and TBBY1013 and also focuses on carpentry. Traditional practice is an essential part of the basic education in the bachelor's course in traditional building crafts, where learning takes place through one's own practical work.

Through participation and training under the guidance of a learning arena, the student will acquire broad and versatile insight into practical work within traditional building crafts.

The course includes project-based work with guidance. The learning arena in collaboration with NTNU is developing a project plan as a framework for the practice in the learning arena.

The project plan should have one or more carpentry projects as an essential part, but other types of construction work can also be included as it is appropriate for the learning arena and the students.

Knowledge

• The candidate has knowledge of: common local types nover in logging, and local / regional types log houses local tradition around material extraction and production of timber for different parts of log houses

Skills

The candidate can:

• carry out carpentry projects from extraction of timber to finished construction, on your own and as part of a larger work team mark and chop local nov type,
• regular skates and remove openings for windows / doors and fold in grazing skis with traditional hand tools
• demonstrate different types of work within traditional carpentry and show good handling with the use of traditional hand tools

General competence

The candidate can:

• use different types of sources to investigate local carpentry tradition
• develop your own craft professional level through systematic practice
• sharpen and adjust their own tools used in the work

Practical project-based work in the learning arena with professional guidance and reporting of work performed. The work can also to some extent consist of excursions, fieldwork, internships or work seminars.

Active participation in the practical work is necessary to be able to complete the course.
